Batley Bulldogs release Wesley Bruines

BATLEY BULLDOGS have confirmed the release of outside back Wesley Bruines.

The 23-year-old only made four appearances for the club, the last of them coming in the 21-20 Good Friday derby win over Dewsbury Rams in which he scored a try.

His move to Batley in October was a return to the Heavy Woollen district for the Dewsbury-born player after spells in the academies of Wakefield Trinity and South Sydney Rabbitohs, then first-team contracts at St Helens and Warrington Wolves.

Although he never played at Super League level, he did make loan appearances with Swinton Lions and North Wales Crusaders in 2023.

Bulldogs coach James Ford said: “It is a shame it did not work out with Wes at Batley.

“We all know he has a lot of ability, but sadly, it just was not the right fit. I wish him all the very best with whatever he does next.”
