Beating Hull KR ‘means a lot’ says Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess

SAM BURGESS believes Warrington Wolves will take great confidence from their 34-12 victory against Hull KR.

A first win in three reignites their push to confirm a play-off place coach Burgess said: “It was an important game for us and we were probably a seven out of ten.

“Hull KR are a great side and very well coached so to beat the champions means a lot.

“I think the players will take confidence from that victory – winning creates a great feeling and surely we can move on and recover well for a tough test next week at Leigh.

“In the first half we were very composed and we did our jobs. The second half was scrappy but we had done enough.

“There is plenty of improvement in us but we defended well.

“We looked a little bit more like ourselves. We have been missing George Williams and Cai Taylor-Wray, but what we have seen through Lachlan Webster, Leon Hayes and Ewan Irwin is great.

“Joe Philbin came back into the side and he brought great energy. He’s hard to tackle and has great leg speed.

“He is realising he can have a great influence on the group – he’s got three months left at the club and we could see the best of him in these last three months.”
