Betts hails playmaker Brown

Kevin Brown was back to his best in Widnes’ 48-12 hammering of Sheffield at the weekend.

Brown, the key figure in the Vikings ranks for several years, has struggled with injury over recent weeks, but unearthed his devastating ability against the Eagles, marking his performance with a try.

His display earned praise from head coach Denis Betts, who was delighted with what he had seen.

“He’s been great,” Betts said.
“He’s our captain. He’s our leader.

“He does those things that he is supposed to do. He was outstanding today. Loads of assists, great kicking game and scores a try.

“He inspires everyone else in the team by leading from the front.

“Joe Mellor supported him exceptionally well today and I thought both our back-rowers were great.”
