Widnes head coach Denis Betts revelled in his side’s opening day victory over Wakefield.
Two tries through debutant Setaimata Sa helped secure a 24-16 win at Belle Vue with Rhys Hanbury and Lloyd White also scoring.
After being tipped by many to struggle this year, Betts was thrilled to get off to a winning start.
“Winning was what it was all about today.
“It’s a hard place to come because the wind is blowing all over the place, and it’s hard to adjust to the conditions at this time of year.
“The first thing we wanted to do was win – we came away with a really strong performance overall and lots of things we can get better at.
“It’s really hard to say how good an attacking team we can be when it’s so loose underfoot.
“But I thought defensively we showed lots of good things.”
