Brad Arthur gives Jack Bird latest as Leeds Rhinos boss supportive of new ruck interpretation

BRAD ARTHUR has lent his support to the new ruck interpretation ahead of the 2026 Super League campaign.

The new ruck interpretation – intended to speed up the sport – has already seen countless penalties and six agains being awarded during pre-season.

However, the Leeds Rhinos boss believes it is a good idea for moving forward in rugby league.

“It’s not a rule change, all they are doing is policing the ruck properly,” Arthur said.

“You shouldn’t be allowed to drag a player sidewards or have four blokes pile on top of him when he’s done a big carry.

“All they are doing is reffing the game as it should be and it’s up to supporters to get on board with it.

“There might be a few teething problems in the opening rounds but the only way it will turn around is if people back it.”

Arthur also feels that the presence of both Jarrod O’Connor and Danny Levi at hooker will be a boost for the Rhinos due to the new interpretations.

“I feel like having Jarrod and Danny will help us around the ruck and Jarrod can fill a spot anywhere.

“After 25 minutes last week, he played in the middle and was our best defender.

“He’s got a nice pass in his game and has learnt the game a bit better as a utility.”

One man who is yet to arrive in the UK after signing for Leeds is ex-Wests Tigers man Jack Bird.

However, Arthur confirmed that he will be in the country sooner rather than later.

“We’re hopeful of having it sorted really soon with the visas and other bits and pieces.

“We are still trying to get him here in the next week or two.”
