Brierley ruled out for up to three months

Leigh Centurions have been dealt a huge injury blow as halfback Ryan Brierley is set to miss at least six weeks with an ankle injury.

The exciting scrum-half could potentially require surgery after damaging ligaments in his ankle.

If surgery is required, Leigh’s star player, who attracted plenty of Super League attention over the off-season, could spend as long as three months out of action.

“He’s going to see a specialist tomorrow,” revealed head coach Paul Rowley.

“He’ll find out then if he requires surgery. If he does then he’ll be out for a while. The best case for Ryan is six weeks.

“It’s devastating for him. If you thought he was good last year, he’s even quicker and stronger now, and far more confident.

“I would hope nobody would take satisfaction out of a star player suffering a setback, but what I can tell you is that it has galvanised the whole squad.

“If I ever had any questions about how close this group is, then the injury to Ryan has answered it. The support Ryan has received is brilliant.”
