Hetherington takes shot at RFL for poor pathway strategy

Leeds Rhinos chief executive Gary Hetherington has criticised the RFL for failing to provide a strong player pathway for young players taking up the game who have the talent ultimately to play Super League.

Hetherington has spent the last two weeks in Australia, and he believes that the NRL is doing a better job of bringing young players through to the highest levels of the game.

“I have spent a good deal of time looking at the player development processes here, and comparing them to what we do at home,” Hetherington, speaking from Sydney, told League Express.

“The NRL is light years ahead of us.

“The RFL is failing to deliver in this area of the game – the whole player development pathway.”
