Brisbane snatch dramatic win

Brisbane secured the World Club Series for the NRL with an incredible golden point win against Wigan Warriors.

In a pulsating and physical encounter, a try from each side in the first 40 saw it level at the break.

An error, one of several from Wigan’s Joe Burgess, saw the ball spill loose, and Brisbane’s Andrew McCullough nabbed the first try of the night.

Wigan hit back though, as Liam Farrell crossed after confirmation from the video referee. Both teams converted to leave it finely poised at 6-6.

The second half brought the same intensity, and it was only through a penalty from which Brisbane struck. The Broncos shifted it wide, and Lachlan Maranta touched down to restore Brisbane’s lead.

The controversy kept coming; as John Bateman was penalised for a block on a Broncos attacker, Corey Parker kicked for goal to make it 12-6.

However, Wigan somehow took the game to golden point when Burgess crossed sensationally – and Smith converted to make it 12-12.

Several dramatic attempts at goal followed from both teams before a penalty almost ten minutes into extra time sealed the win – and the series – for Brisbane.
