Captains test at Dons

Doncaster coach Richard Horne was given food for thought on Saturday after seeing several contenders for the 2020 captaincy come to the fore.

A local Army regiment spent the day training with the squad, with leadership qualities one aspect Horne was hoping to see from his players.

“It was something a little bit different,” said Horne.

“It wasn’t just ball in hand, there was some Army-based fitness work as well.

“It was also a chance for some team bonding and to see who are leaders are.

“Some of the activities would see that quality come out naturally and it was interesting to see that on show in a different way.

“Ryan Boyle will be up there as a candidate for the captaincy again, but the role is still up for grabs.

“We want a captain who doesn’t just talk, but acts as well on what he’s saying.

“Saturday gave us a great indication of who the candidates could be.”
