Ian Watson discusses Salford’s recruitment plans

Ian Watson has confirmed that Salford will not be doing any further recruitment leading into the 2020 season.

The Red Devils coach has brought twelve new players into his squad ahead of the next campaign, with Salford hoping for another Grand Final appearance.

Despite suggestions they might still be in the market, Watson insists they have used up their budget, but he is thrilled with the business they’ve done.

“Unless we find a load of money we won’t be doing anything else,” he said.

“But we’re really happy. Normally we’re still trying to put a squad together with whoever is left, hoping someone falls out of a system.

“But we’ve got 26 players in right now, which is up on last year, and as a coaching group we’re really happy with what we’re seeing from the boys.

“The group is rugby smart, but off the field they’re really good company.

They’ve all built on our work ethic. They’re not worried about any kind of nonsense and they enjoy what they’re doing. They’ve not got their back up but they hold each other accountable too if something isn’t quite right. Everyone thinks everything is brilliant at this time of the year but I’m really pleased with where we are at the minute.”
