Castleford Tigers boss hopeful of Krystian Mapapalangi return against Leeds Rhinos

CASTLEFORD TIGERS boss Ryan Carr is hopeful of having Krystian Mapapalangi in contention for Sunday’s visit of Leeds Rhinos.

The former Newcastle Knights centre was withdrawn before kick-off in last Saturday’s defeat at Leigh Leopards, with Semi Valemei taking the centre spot and 18th man Mikaele Ravalawa coming on to the wing.

Mapapalangi has been in scintillating form for the Tigers in his maiden season in Super League – scoring eight tries in 18 appearances – with Carr and the Castleford medical team monitoring him ahead of a potential return against the league leaders.

“Maps (Mapapalangi) has been working hard on his recovery,” the Tigers boss said.

“He has had a bad dead leg for three weeks and has kept getting a whack on it every week he has been playing.

“It got too much for him last weekend, but we will monitor him towards the end of the week.

“He’s got a chance of playing (against Leeds).”

Jordan Lane and Tyler Dupree could also be set for returns, having both missed the 24-18 defeat to Leigh with a hip flexor injury and failed HIA respectively.

“Laney’s never had that injury before so wasn’t sure what was giving him grief,” Carr explained.

“He is the ultimate professional though, it is settling quite well so hopefully he can come back.

“Tyler is working through the protocols so we’re hopeful obviously.”
