CHRIS CHESTER has revealed that a decision on Ryan Carr’s future as Castleford Tigers head coach will be made in less than a week.
Carr was not in the dugout for the Tigers’ 44-0 thrashing by Hull KR last Friday, having not been with the team since the prior Tuesday.
Reports suggested Carr had been stood down pending an investigation, although Castleford said the ex-Featherstone Rovers boss was stood down for “personal reasons”.
While the future of Carr remains up in the air, director of rugby Chester has insisted that the club are not looking for a new head coach.
“We’re really hopeful it will come to a conclusion over the weekend or the start of next week,” Chester said.
“But there’s nothing really more to add right now. We’ve made a statement already, and when there is some news to come out we will make sure we let everyone know.
“We’re not actively looking for a new head coach.
“We’re obviously looking for some reinforcements because at the moment I’ve just got one coach (Scott Murrell) and Rob Nickolay (Castleford’s director of pathways) who is assisting.
“We want to try and bring someone in to assist and help around the training to allow me to do my day-to-day job.
“It’s such an important time of the year in terms of recruitment and making sure things are in place for the new recruits coming over.
“We just want to get Friday (an away fixture at Hull FC) out of the way and we’ll make some calls but we’re not actively looking for a head coach.”
