Castleford to release forward duo at end of season

Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell has conceded that forward duo Scott Wheeldon and Ryan Bailey will be released by the club at the end of the season, as revealed in Monday’s edition of League Express.

Wheeldon is in his second season at the club after spells at the likes of London and Hull KR in the past, whilst Bailey only joined Castleford midway through this year after a spell with Hull KR.

But Powell confirmed that both will not be at Cas in 2016.

“He is a great kid and a really great pro,” Powell said of Wheeldon.

“He has been outstanding for us, to be honest, but this year has been tough.

“He got a long-term knee injury, but he would be an asset to any club, he is a top player and a top kid.”

Speaking about Bailey, Powell said: “He has done a decent job for us, but with the young front-rowers we’ve got – Gadwin Springer and Will Maher – we feel we are covered for next season.”
