Catalans Dragons sign Newcastle Knights’ Tyson Gamble

JOHN CARTWRIGHT has brought another familiar face to Catalans Dragons for next season in Tyson Gamble.

The 30-year-old halfback has signed a two-year contract to join from Newcastle Knights and replace fellow Australian Toby Sexton, who is bound for NRL newcomers Perth Bears at the end of this season.

Gamble’s signing follows that of Jesse Arthars, the outside back from Brisbane Broncos who has also committed for two years.

Both players worked at Brisbane with Cartwright, who was assistant coach there for four years until being appointed Hull FC head coach ahead of the 2025 season.

Cartwright left that role in acrimonious fashion in April and joined Catalans the following month on a deal for the remainder of the season.

But there is increasing expectation that the 60-year-old will now stay in Perpignan for longer.

Gamble will be tasked with forming a strong halfback partnership with Lewis Dodd, who has settled well in his first season with the Dragons.

Cartwright said of Gamble: “He’s an outstanding competitor who shows the same commitment in training as he does in matches.

“He brings experience, excellent kicking skills, and strong defensive qualities. He will be a great addition to the squad.”

Gamble, who has 70 NRL appearances under his belt, said: “I am very happy to wear the Catalans Dragons jersey for the next two seasons.

“I thank the club for this opportunity and I hope to do them and the fans proud.”
