DARYL POWELL has confirmed that Wakefield Trinity had a bid rejected for emerging St Helens star Harry Robertson.
And while a reported six-figure approach for the 20-year-old, who is contracted to Saints until the end of 2028, was turned down, coach Powell hasn’t ruled out a further offer being made.
Wakefield are searching for a new addition to their backline ahead of next season, following the decision to allow Cameron Scott to leave for Bradford Bulls.
Powell said: “He’s a player we were interested in – who wouldn’t be? We made an offer and Saints declined it.
“We really like him, we think he’s a high-quality player.
“We’re looking for an outside back for next year and we’re still on the lookout. We’re keen on Harry but we’ll see what happens.”
Wakefield do have Oliver Pratt, who has been frequently been fielded on the wing this season, as a centre option alongside Corey Hall.
New Zealand Warriors’ cross-code star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is also joining the club next season and could play anywhere across the back five.
While the majority of Robertson’s senior career has come at centre, he was a fullback or halfback by trade in St Helens’ academy so could also be utilised there.
In the short term, Trinity remain short in the outside backs having played Seth Nikotemo then Jay Pitts at centre in their previous two games.
Their resources will remain stretched for at least another week, with no players due back for Sunday’s visit from Huddersfield Giants.
“Lachlan (Walmsley) potentially plays reserves on Monday night against Hull,” said Powell.
“Corey Hall and Oli Pratt are a few weeks away yet. Jayden Myers is getting closer, he may be a week or two away but not too far.”
Powell also hinted that young playmaker Robbie Brook could be considered for a debut in the coming weeks, following Kian McGann’s first outing in last Friday’s win at Hull FC.
“We have got a few young players who are there or thereabouts,” said Powell, also namechecking Myles Lawford, the halfback on loan at Halifax Panthers who has not appeared for Wakefield since 2024.
“We’ll make a decision as we roll through the season as to when is the right time for them.”
