MAGIC WEEKEND organisers hope to further increase their record ticket sales with performances from chart-topping singer Example and DJ Jax Jones.
More than 75,000 tickets have already been purchased for the event at Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool on July 4-5, meaning it’s set to surpass the Magic aggregate attendance record of 68,276 (at St James’ Park in 2018).
As well as Super League’s twelve English sides, the 52,888-capacity home of Everton Football Club will also play host to music acts between the second and third match each day.
Singer-songwriter and rapper Example, who had number-one hits in 2011 with Changed the Way You Kiss Me and Stay Awake, will perform on Saturday, July 4.
The following day Jones, who has more than nine billion global streams, will provide the live set.
Katarina Grahram, senior marketing manager at Rugby League Commercial, said: “With one month to go until the event we now have a full programme of world class rugby league on the pitch, and world class entertainment off it.”
It has also been confirmed that the Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League will again be showcased at Magic Weekend, with games taking place at half-time in the second Super League fixture on each day.
As well as a line-up of derbies – including the Hull clubs on the Saturday then Leeds-Bradford and Wigan-St Helens on the Sunday – the move to Hill Dickinson Stadium appears to have been a key driver in the record sales.
It will be the second rugby league event at the ground, which only opened last year, following England’s sold-out second Ashes game against Australia in November.
And Liam Robinson, leader of Liverpool City Council, hopes more will follow.
He said: “When we think about how successful the Ashes Test was last year, bringing Magic Weekend – the whole of Super League, with some of the game’s most iconic derbies – to the city, we know it’s going to be huge.
“I’m very confident it won’t be the last time rugby league is back in our city and in this fantastic new stadium.”
For the first time in Magic’s 19-year history, not every game in the round will be played at the same venue, with the all-French tie between Catalans Dragons and Toulouse Olympique to be held at Stade Pierre Fabre in Castres.
