Chester happy to silence critics

Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Chris Chester was happy to silence the critics after his side sprung a shock 18-8 win over Warrington Wolves on Sunday.

After Trinity’s opening-day defeat at Hull KR, Wakefield had been written off against Warrington but tries from Matty Ashurst and Tom Johnstone sealed a deserved win at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

“We’ve quietened a few people after this result tonight,” Chester said.

“I’m pleased for the players because they cop it just as much as me. They came out the other end today and I’m really proud of everybody’s effort. The last few weeks have been really good in training.

“We controlled that first 40 minutes. We showed some real Wakefield grit especially when we went behind.

“I thought there were some really good individual performances but collectively as a group, as a 17, it was probably one of the best wins I’ve been involved in.

“We never looked in any danger. Even when we went down, I always felt comfortable that we would get the result.”
