NEWCASTLE THUNDER coach Chris Thorman likes what he has seen so far from the returning Alex Taylor.
The secondrow came through the club’s development system but didn’t reach the first team, instead opting to switch codes.
While in union, he played for Wallsend and represented Northumberland.
Taylor was named man of the match on debut against Batley in round two of the Challenge Cup before featuring again in the 1895 Cup preliminary round one loss to North Wales Crusaders.
“Alex has epitomised what we’re about and what we aspire to be,” said Thorman.
“He’s tough, uncompromising and fit. His effort-based stuff is always through the roof.
“He’s got some improvement in him defensively, there were a couple of misreads. But that stuff comes with time and repetition and training.
“This is his first proper pre-season so we’re really happy with how he’s gone.
“The boys have taken to him really well. He’s a well-liked member of the group and he just needs to keep working hard and improving. I have no doubt he will.”
