Big Challenge Cup crowd a shot in the arm for Whitehaven

WHITEHAVEN coach Anthony Murray says Saturday’s Challenge Cup third-round clash with Warrington provided a real shot in the arm for the club as they continue through a rebuilding phase.

His side lost 44-4 – but the boss said the performance in front of a receptive 3,980 crowd in West Cumbria was encouraging.

And he also hailed Warrington coach Sam Burgess as well as the travelling fans.

“I thought it was a fantastic occasion, and it showed what Rugby League means here,” said Murray.

“I was blown away by the support for my team from the first minute to the last. I think they could see the effort that was put in by the players.

“The Warrington fans were great as well, and Sam and his players were superb, staying out on the pitch for photos and autographs.”
