Hull KR forward Jordan Cox has signed a two-year contract extension.
The prop or second rower joins fellow Academy graduates James Green and Macauley Hallett in agreeing a new deal that will keep him at the KC Lightstream Stadium until the end of 2016.
Cox, who turned 22 earlier this week and is currently two matches short of his 50th appearance for the Robins, told www.hullkr.co.uk it was an easy decision to make.
“I love the club, it’s my hometown club and we’ve got a great bunch of lads here. I really believe we’ve got the chance to achieve something with the squad we’ve got,” he said.
“I get on really well with Sandy (Craig Sandercock) and the coaching staff too so it’s good to get it all sorted out because it’s been playing on my mind a little bit.
“All I’ve wanted to do is focus on my rugby, but it is a bit distracting when it’s your future and you keep hearing stories about other clubs supposedly being interested in you.
“I’m really happy I’ll be staying here and the aim now is to establish a regular place in the side over the next couple of years. I’ve been having a few good games and then dipping off a bit, so I want to be more consistent and hopefully get picked for the England Knights again.”
A strong ball carrier who can play in either the front or back row, Cox made his Rovers bow in 2011 and has twice been denied an international debut for the Knights by an untimely shoulder injury.
His new deal comes shortly after extensions for Green and Hallett earlier this month and head coach Craig Sandercock believes it is a vital piece of business for the Robins.
He said: “It’s really important as a club that we keep hold of our home-grown players and it’s great that Jordan has committed to Hull KR for the next two seasons at least.
“He’s still only young but Jordan has worked very hard to develop his game over the past couple of years and the exciting this is he’s only going to get better.
“He’s really benefitting from training and playing alongside some of the more experienced members of the squad and the fact that players such as Jordan see their long-term future here is testament to the direction the club is moving in.”
