DONCASTER have both a place in the Championship play-offs and a run in the 1895 Cup in their sights, according to experienced back Craig Hall.
The versatile 36-year-old is going into his second year at the South Yorkshire club after moving from Featherstone, where Richard Horne’s side start their league campaign on Sunday.
Hall, who has also played for both clubs in Hull, which is his home city, as well as Wakefield, Toronto and Leigh, represented Featherstone in the 2022 1895 Cup final, won by Leigh at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But Doncaster have not got beyond the quarter-final stage, being beaten 32-28 at home by Sheffield in 2019.
They were also defeated (22-18) by the Eagles in the group stages last season, when Horne’s men finished eighth in their first second-tier campaign since 2015.
The Dons aim to improve on that as well as making progress in the 1895 Cup – a visit to Sheffield in round one on the weekend of March 1/2 awaits – and Hall reckons a reshaped squad is more than capable.
“I think we have the players to compete even more strongly, and if we can keep a reasonably fit group, we can be optimistic,” he said.
