St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has revealed his admiration for Huddersfield Giants star Joe Wardle ahead of the meeting between the sides this evening.
Third-placed Saints tackle fourth-placed Huddersfield in a huge battle in the fast-developing Super 8s, and Cunningham – who tore into his side after defeat at home to Hull last week – says Wardle is the kind of player who deserves to be playing internationally, such is his talent.
“Joe Wardle is one of my favourite players and he deserves an international call-up,” he said.
“He is a back-rower who adds so much venom to the side, while Danny Brough is underrated, too, and is one of the best organisers and kickers in the comp.”
Cunningham is expecting a fierce battle between the Giants and says that games between the sides often are decided by small margins.
“They are a well-organised and well-drilled side. It is always a tussle with them that goes down to the finest of margins.”
