Cunningham backs LMS for shot with England

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has thrown his weight behind an England call-up for forward Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook later this year.

The man dubbed ‘LMS’ has been in impressive form again for the Saints this year, and Cunningham believes if Steve McNamara picks his squad on form for the series against New Zealand later this year, there’s no reason why the London-born forward shouldn’t be involved.

“He (McCarthy-Scarsbrook) can hold his own with any of the England back-rowers,” Cunningham told the St Helens Reporter.

“For me you should go with form in the competition.

“You shouldn’t pick someone because five years ago they had a great game for England – you should pick someone because they are doing really well – and if you look at Steve Mac’s squad he has done.

“But Louie is up there with the best in the competition. He’s in the back of people’s minds.”
