St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has played down reports linking the club with a move for Widnes half-back Tom Gilmore – but admitted that if he did become available, they would look at striking a deal.
The Saints were reported to be interested in the young half-back, who is under contract with the Vikings for 2016.
But Cunningham has told the St Helens Star that whilst he’s always interested in the prospect of signing good players, Gilmore is not someone on their immediate radar at the moment.
“Tom is friends with Percy (Mark Percival) and Jack Owens,” Cunningham said.
“He is a good little player and I am always interested in good little players, especially people who live down the road.
“If he becomes available and we have finances available and he fits our club then we will always look at it, but he is not a player we are openly going after at the minute.”
The Saints have signed Jack Owens from Widnes so far for 2016, as well as Theo Fages, Lama Tasi and Dominique Peyroux.
