Curtis Sironen signs new St Helens deal

CURTIS SIRONEN has signed a new contract that will keep him at St Helens until the end of 2027.

The deal will take Sironen into his fifth and six year as a Saint having joined in 2022, when he was part of the team that secured a fourth successive Super League title at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old has made 90 appearances for St Helens, scoring 15 tries, and joins fellow back-rower Matt Whitley in signing an extension.

Sironen, who previously played for Wests Tigers and Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL, said: “Being a Saint reignited my love for rugby league again.

“Being here I’ve met great people, made lifelong friends, and even started my family.

“I am over the moon to still be part of this great club. We want to get back to winning ways. I also want to help the younger boys coming through and leave my mark on my career here.

“I want to get to 100 games for the club as soon as I can. Hopefully, a strong pre-season will set me up for it, and I hit the ground running. I want to build on last year and find ways to keep getting better.”

Sironen is also looking forward to working under new head coach Paul Rowley, who has joined from Salford Red Devils.

He added: “It’s always exciting when you have a new coach because it’s a fresh start for everyone. You have to go and earn your stripes again, and that’s a good thing.

“Paul plays an attacking brand of rugby, and I’m looking forward to meeting and working with him, as well as seeing what new ideas he has, and how he wants me to go about my game.”
