TOULOUSE OLYMPIQUE have made a second signing for their Super League return in the shape of Oldham winger Mathieu Pons.
The 23-year-old is the son of former Toulouse star Cyril Pons, and only started playing the sport in 2022 while in Australia.
In 2023, he joined Saint-Gaudens Bears, where his father had also played, and following a trial at Hull KR Pons moved to Halifax Panthers the following year.
After playing only twice for Halifax, he returned to Saint-Gaudens, then joined Oldham in May and scored seven tries in as many matches.
Pons said: “As a Toulouse native, I am very honoured to have the opportunity to take my first steps in the Super League with Toulouse.
“I can’t wait to start training and give my all on the field.”
Pons joins first new recruit Luke Polselli, who is also stepping up from the Championship after a season with London Broncos, as Toulouse finish off their squad.
Toulouse head coach Sylvain Houles said: “We’ve been watching Mathieu for a few years now, and his progress has been phenomenal.
“He’s a very athletic, fast, powerful player with enormous potential for further improvement.
“We’re eager to work with him and see the Pons name back in the Toulouse colors, since his father Cyril played for the club shortly before the year 2000.”
