Leeds Rhinos forward Adam Cuthbertson has admitted that he was close to having his whole family against him in this weekend’s Challenge Cup final – but there’s a few extra Rhinos in the Cuthbertson household this week.
Cuthbertson’s family hail from Warrington and were ready to roar on the Wolves against the Rhinos in this year’s Wembley final – but Hull KR spoiled the party and dumped Warrington out in the last four to reach the final.
And Cuthbertson said that he’s got a few fans on board cheering Leeds on after that result.
“They were up against the Hull KR fans the other week in the semi-final and they were keen to see one of their own go up against their own team in the final, but it wasn’t to be,” he said.
“Obviously Hull spoilt their party and I’ve got a few supporters jumping on the Leeds bandwagon for one week only!”
Cuthbertson also insisted he can’t wait to sample the Wembley experience in his first season in England.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better debut season this year – but obviously nothing’s won yet.
“I watched a bit of the cup back home, mainly because I knew some of the Aussie boys who came over to compete in it.
“You wanted to see how their standards were over here. I watched a few over the years but last year sticks in my memory because it was Leeds and I’d already signed with the club so I got the option to focus on it and watch them play.
“It looked amazing; the atmosphere seemed unreal and I can’t wait to experience it.”
