Daryl Powell speaks for the first time as Wakefield Trinity head coach

DARYL POWELL has spoken for the first time since joining Wakefield Trinity as head coach on a four-year deal.

Powell left his former job at Warrington Wolves midway through the 2023 Super League season and he is now tasked with leading Wakefield back to Super League following the club’s relegation.

With Wakefield’s takeover now complete, all focus is on Powell to build a squad capable of mounting a title charge.

Upon signing with Wakefield, Powell said: “After extensive discussions with our new owner, Matt Ellis, about his vision for the club and the ambition to establish Wakefield Trinity as a leading Super League team in the years to come, I am delighted to accept the position of Head Coach. I looking forward immensely to the challenges the role with bring.

“I look forward to to meeting fans, players, and staff in the coming weeks and working towards pulling the whole city of Wakefield together in our effort to propel us back into the Super League and grow the club back to where it should be.

“In preparation, we’re working exceptionally hard in assembling a top-tier backroom team and, of course, a playing squad that shares my excitement and enthusiasm for creating an elite environment in which we can all prosper in.”
