YORK KNIGHTS have retained one of Super League’s top wingers by agreeing a contract with David Nofoaluma, according to coach Mark Applegarth.
The 32-year-old former NRL star has signed a permanent, two-year deal with York after impressing on what was technically a loan spell from their parent club Newcastle Thunder this year.
Nofoaluma, who joined in February after previous club Halifax Panthers were wound up, scored 15 tries in 21 appearances as York claimed an impressive tenth-placed finish in their first Super League season.
That was some improvement on a two-game spell with Salford Red Devils, after which he spent time in France with Pia, and a return to the form that saw him touch down 100 times in 192 appearances for Wests Tigers, making him the club’s record try-scorer.
“David, on his day, is one of the best wingers in the league,” said Applegarth.
“He’s a big name that’s been on a fantastic journey to get back to the top of the sport in terms of club level.
“He’s a great character to have around. I really enjoy working with David and I think he’s still got his best rugby in front of him.”
