CHARLOTTE MEREDITH and Lucie Sams both scored debut tries off the bench as Wigan flexed their muscles ahead of next Friday’s huge derby by thumping Barrow.

While it was a professional debut for Meredith, Sams was making her return both to the club – having previously been in their Academy before a spell with St Helens – and the code on a temporary basis from rugby union’s Sale.

Both were introduced in the closing stages of the first half, as was Emily Veivers who returned from the broken arm suffered in Wigan’s Challenge Cup triumph in June.

Isabel Rowe was hugely influential in the display, scoring a hat-trick, providing several other tries and converting 12 of the Warriors’ 17 in total.

Eva Hunter wasted little time continuing her remarkable scoring record by registering in a 13th consecutive game, crossing twice in the first 13 minutes to make it 24 for the season in all competitions.

Molly Jones opened the scoring while Jenna Foubister and Cerys Jones also notched four-pointers before Meredith got her try within four minutes of coming on.

Rowe’s first try made it 0-40 at half-time and the second half was the same story of Wigan dominance.

Foubister grabbed a second and Georgia Wilson scored before doubles from Ruby Hunter and Mia Atherton either side of Sams’ try.

Rowe completed her treble with two tries in three minutes and Rachel Thompson was the last to touch down.

Outgunned Barrow, who at least kept the score to double figures unlike May’s reverse, also had a debutant off the bench in Megan Mayhew-Beach, a recent addition from Workington.
