SAM BURGESS was most impressed with his side’s defensive efforts in Warrington’s 24-10 victory against St Helens, in front of a sell-out crowd.
Warrington blew Saints away in a dominant first half, storming into an 18–0 lead at half-time.
But it was Warrington’s ability to withstand a fierce Saints second-half fightback which most caught Burgess’ eye.
“We kept giving the ball back in good spots, and we just couldn’t get off our line, but we kept turning up at a really important period of the game,” he said.
“We came with a very clear plan, and I thought the team stuck to it. You can’t help some of the errors in the second half… but we got ourselves back in the game and got control of it.
“We only had four or five sets in that period, and we held them out until (Jack) Welsby broke the game open. I was really happy with the commitment to the goal-line defence.”
