WILLIE PETERS felt Hull KR’s derby victory was the perfect response to any critics and doubters.
The Robins needed a win over Hull FC to revive their play-off hopes after successive losses to Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves.
And after falling twelve points behind early on, they performed impressively to record a 34-20 success – a ninth in a row over their rivals.
Head coach Peters said: “It was a nervous start at 12-0 down, and it could have got ugly if they scored another, but they fought, which is what I wanted after the week we had.
“People questioned a few things around us, and the best way to answer that is winning football games and showing the fight we showed tonight. It shows we’re still a connected team.
“It’s important when people question the team, the connection and how tough you are, that you show you’re still connected by performing well.
“I said it was the perfect fixture to show we’ve still got that fight. Every derby is challenging. It’s played with a lot of physicality and tonight was no different.
“But from 12-0 down at the MKM Stadium to our rivals, to be able to come back and then kick on at the back end, that was what we needed.”
Having returned to the top six on points difference, Hull KR have eight more games to clinch a play-off spot.
And Peters, whose side host Bradford Bulls next Friday, said: “We have to show we’re consistent.
“We need to be consistent with that fight, grit and determination. We need to maintain that every week.”
