ONLY two fixtures were played on what had been designated as a rest day.

DEWSBURY MOOR MAROONS narrowed the gap on second-placed Dewsbury Celtic in the FIRST DIVISION to three points with a 30-6 victory at neighbours SHAW CROSS SHARKS.

The Moor, who had edged the Sharks 26-18 at home, have a game in hand on Celtic and are the form side in the section with four successive wins. 

Shaw Cross, who have lost three of their last four games, stay sixth and remain in line for a promotion play-off spot. 

Dewsbury Moor forged a twelve-point lead when George Woodcock crossed on 13 minutes and Jackson Walker followed suit in the Maroons’ next set, Louie Walker goaling both scores. 

The visitors went in at the break 18-0 up, with the help of Woodcock’s second try on 35 minutes.

Shaw Cross brushed aside the sinbinning of Alex Baines on 55 minutes for holding down by posting an Aaron Smith touchdown (improved by Evan Stephenson) four minutes later.

But the Moor eased home with tries in the last ten minutes for Kieren Hepworth and Louie Walker, the latter completing a five-from-five return with the boot.

OULTON RAIDERS and LEIGH MINERS RANGERS tried once again in south Leeds after their game in early June was abandoned at half-time because of a leg injury sustained by the referee. 

The fifth-placed Miners, who had been 18-6 ahead on that occasion, duly prevailed 34-16, despite having Ben Turner sinbinned for a high tackle.

A sixth win in seven outings was on the agenda after 15 minutes, by which stage Turner and Marco Williamson had crossed, with Callum Ashurst landing the first of his five conversions to help establish a 10-0 lead. 

Oulton, who are still three points shy of the play-off berths, were only 16-12 adrift as the interval beckoned, Archie Craggs having improved tries by Matthew Todd and Charlie Tetley.

But Williamson, who had dotted down between times, notched his hat-trick score on 35 minutes to help establish a 22-12 interval lead.

Diego Walker and Jack Hamer shot over within eight minutes of the restart to secure a 22-point cushion, before Kieran Walpole nipped over for the Raiders as the match went into the final quarter.
