Doncaster to host Wakefield Trinity in pre-season game

DONCASTER will play neighbours Wakefield in a newly-arranged pre-season match at the Eco-Power Stadium a week on Sunday, February 2.

The fixture has been fitted in following the postponement of the planned meeting with Hull Reserves amid the recent big freeze.

It will follow the Challenge Cup second-round tie at Championship rivals Bradford this Sunday, with the winners of that game hosting Castleford in round two on the weekend of February 8/9.

Doncaster, aiming to build on last year’s eighth-place finish in what was their first second-tier campaign since 2015, open their league fixtures at Featherstone on Sunday, February 16.

The Wakefield game provides prop Josh Bowden with the chance to face his former employers.

The ex-Hull player figured 31 times for Trinity in 2024, including in the Championship Grand Final win over Toulouse.

Bowden is among six new signings, the latest of them former Huddersfield forward Andre Savelio.

Meanwhile Doncaster have agreed a dual-registration deal with Hull.

“It will provide us with valuable cover this season,” said coach Richard Horne.
