Workington Town snap up Warrington Wolves prospect on season loan

WORKINGTON TOWN coach Jonty Gorley “jumped at the chance” to bring in Warrington forward Noah High.

The 19-year-old prop is from Ulverston, near Barrow, and has joined on a season-long loan.

He came through the junior system at amateur club Dalton and also represented Wigan St Judes before joining Warrington in 2021, and played under Gorley on loan to Whitehaven last season.

“I was instantly impressed in how he plays the game,” said Gorley, who took the Workington job in September.

“He’s a young, athletic frontrow who carries the ball really well and has plenty of intent when he’s defending.

“We were set to get Noah later on in the season but his circumstances changed and he became available now so I jumped at the chance. I can’t wait to work with him and see him play for Town.”

Gorley is also pleased to have wrapped up a two-year deal to bring in halfback Jake Carter from Whitehaven.

“Adding a player of Jake’s calibre was a no brainer for me,” he explained of the 26-year-old former Barrow player.

“I know what he’ll bring to the team, he’s got experience of the Championship and is being talked about at Super League clubs and I understand why.

“He’s a big fit lad for a half, very vocal and his all-round game is real quality. It’s all topped off with a great left-foot kicking game and he’s also an accomplished goal-kicker.

“It’s players like Jake we need to bring in if we’re serious about competing in this division.”
