EAMON O’CARROLL was understandably overjoyed after seeing his St Helens side demolish Wakefield Trinity, 46-16.
Saints were magnificent in the final quarter, registering five late tries as Trinity simply couldn’t live with the power and pace of O’Carroll’s men.
After the game, O’Carroll said: “I thought we were incredibly brave. I’m just really happy to see some of the things we’ve been working on to transform on to the field.
“I’m so happy with the staff and players but what is important is we keep our feet on the ground because we’ve won one game.
“Tonight was the fruits of our labour. We went 10-0 down and we were really brave. I felt confident. We had belief in our group.”
O’Carroll believes perspective needs to be added as to why Saints are in the position of potentially missing out on the play-offs.
“We understand the position we are in and why,” he added.
“There are a couple of teams that have lost one or two individuals that have had a massive dip in form and we’ve lost eight or nine.
“We need to understand the reasons we are performing like we are. You can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it could be the best period we’ve been through.”
Lewis Murphy left the field with a lower leg injury, but O’Carroll confirmed it wasn’t too serious.
