Foran stripped of Eels captaincy

Parramatta Eels have relieved Kieran Foran of the club’s captaincy.

The news  follows reports from Down Under claimed the New Zealand international had failed to turn up for several rehabilitation sessions as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

Foran, 25, has been ruled out for the remainder of the season because of the injury, making just nine appearances for the Eels since signing a contract with the club estimated to be around $5 million (£2.77 million) after leaving Manly.

Foran was granted leave in April after his relationship with his long-term partner broke down.

He made two appearances following his return, but he a tore a tendon in his shoulder against the Newcastle Knights, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

A club statement said: “The Parramatta Eels have relieved Kieran Foran of his captaincy duties for the remainder of the season so he can focus on his recovery from a shoulder injury.

“The club will not be making any comment regarding its in-house disciplinary systems.”
