Shaun Johnson once again proved to be the scourge of England with a masterful performance to consign Wayne Bennett’s men to defeat in the opening weekend of the Four Nations.
Johnson scored an exceptional interception try before kicking the decisive one-pointer to hand the Kiwis a 17-16 win in Huddersfield and put them on course for the final.
England had led 4-0 early on courtesy of two Gareth Widdop penalties – and had they scored further points in their early period of dominance, the script could have been different.
But the Kiwis battled back to lead at the break, and although England eventually levelled at 16-all thanks to tries from Ryan Hall and Jermaine McGillvary, the Kiwis snatched victory when Johnson broke English hearts once again: just like he did three years ago in the World Cup semi-finals.
