ENGLAND Universities’ tried and tested selection process ahead of competitive action in 2027 is, as in recent years, starting right now.
Eligible players have been invited to put themselves forward for regional trials, with those who most impress set to take part in regional games and, subsequently, in the North v South Student Origin match, followed by selection for the England side itself in 2027’s President’s Cup and the Student Four Nations competition.
Trials and training for the six regional sides (Midlands, South East and South West covering the south and North East, North West and Yorkshire catering for the north) will take place on the first three weekends of November, with precise details to be communicated to players as they register from their respective regions, which will be based geographically on their place of study.
The deadline for registrations, which can be made by visiting the England University Programme 2027 website, is Friday, November 6.
David Butler, England Universities manager, said: “A round of inter-regional games (following the trials) will take place at Loughborough University on Saturday, November 28.
“The second stage to selection is the University Origin game which pits North (Yorkshire, North East and North West) against South (Midlands, South East and South West) on Saturday, February 6, also at Loughborough.”
