Esan Marsters speaks on Salford Red Devils debacle and why he chose Bradford Bulls over rivals

ESAN MARSTERS has admitted that his spell at Salford Red Devils was “tough” but that he “really enjoyed” his time at the club.

Marsters recently signed for Bradford Bulls – one of three Championship clubs to earn promotion to Super League for 2026 – amidst interest from rival UK clubs.

But that move followed an intense period as a Salford player, where he registered five tries in 23 appearances.

Throughout the 2025 campaign, the Red Devils were plagued with financial issues which led to the club selling most of their players in a bid to make it to the end of the season.

Marsters stuck with Salford until the very end because he felt there would be “light at the end of the tunnel” – something which never came.

“It was a tough one. I felt like I was a person that wanted to see what happened to the club,” Marsters told BBC Radio Leeds.

“I really enjoyed my time at the club, and especially the coaches and the boys there. It felt like a situation where I was torn in between.

“Like I said, I really enjoyed my time there, regardless of what’s been going on, I always thought there were going to be some light at the end of the tunnel.

“It’s a shame that it didn’t work out, but I’ve been here for a week now, and I’m really looking forward to getting to play for Bradford. I know the rich history they have.”

Marsters also feels that the vision presented by head coach Kurt Haggerty will drive the Bulls forward.

“Speaking with Kurt, the vision he had for us as a team and how much it meant to him to coach the side, it just resonated a lot with me,” said the Cook Islands international.

“I felt like it was an opportunity I couldn’t miss, and them being a proud club coming up to Super League, I knew it was the right move for me.”
