European Rugby League consider proposal to move HQ to France

EUROPEAN RUGBY LEAGUE will discuss a proposal to move their headquarters to France at their annual general meeting later this month.

The organisation, which co-ordinates development of the sport across not only Europe but also North America, the Middle East and Africa, is currently registered in Harrogate.

But ERL have been exploring options to relocate to the European Union “in order to access greater funding”, they have said.

Submissions have been received from France, Ireland and Netherlands, and the former is the frontrunner after a review of applications by experienced administrator Niel Wood.

The proposal will be put to ERL members at the online meeting on Saturday, November 22.

Chair Dean Andrew said: “Last year we stated the aim that we wished to position ERL to be eligible to apply for and receive European Union funding and, with a comprehensive report and research in place, are ready to make that recommendation to the membership and to begin the process.

“It is a hugely significant vote for the future direction of the ERL, and I am looking forward to as many of our members as possible joining the meeting.”
