European World Cup Qualifying campaign decided

The two groups have been decided for the final round of European qualifying for the 2017 World Cup.

Three teams will qualify from the six teams remaining, joining the likes of England, Australia and New Zealand in reaching the tournament in two years’ time.

Pool A will consist of Wales, Serbia and Italy, with the winners automatically ling through to the tournament itself. The winner of Pool B will also progress automatically, with Ireland, Russia and Spain the three teams in that group.

From there, the two second placed teams from each pool will meet in a game next November – exactly one year today – at Leigh Sports Village to decide the other side who goes through. That all means three out of the six teams will progress.
