Wakefield have raided Cronulla Sharks for the second time this week, signing Tinirau Arona from the NRL side on a one-year deal.
Arona, 26, joins the Wildcats from the Sharks after making 70 first grade appearances in Australia. He joins Cronulla team mate Anthony Tupou in heading for Wakefield ahead of the 2016 season.
Operating either as prop or in the back row, Arona made his international debut at the age of 17 for Cook Islands. He will link up with old coach Brian Smith in his time in West Yorkshire.
“It’s a big change coming from Cronulla Sydney,” said Arona
“But me and my family are looking forward to embracing Wakefield as our new family and home.”
“Travelling with my good friend Anthony Tupou and reuniting with my first NRL coach Brian Smith makes this move even more exciting for me. I have played some of my best football under the guidance of Smithy and I’m looking foward to improving my game with him as my coach again.”
“I cannot wait to put on the Wildcats jersey and with my new teammates make a big impact in this tournament.”
