THE favourites to host the 2030 Rugby League World Cup have been revealed as the American market looks set to have its second chance at taking the tournament to new heights.
The 2026 Rugby League World Cup was supposed to be heading to the USA and Canada, but investment for that tournament eventually fell through, and the hosting rights were transferred to France.
It seemed to be a poisoned chalice, though, as the French government withdrew its support before Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea stepped in as the tournament was rearranged for 2026 instead of 2025.
The International Rugby League’s governing body has already confirmed Kenya, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, and the United States have placed bids to host the 2030 tournament, but League Express understands that there is a great appetite to see the USA be given a second chance.
That is on the back of the success of both the NRL and Super League in taking exhibition matches to Las Vegas, with yet another extravaganza promised for 2026 with Hull KR and Leeds Rhinos set to be part of next year’s event.
