England beat New South Wales to open Wheelchair Ashes tour

ENGLAND began their tour of Australia with an 86-10 win over New South Wales at the Whitlam Sports Centre in western Sydney.

All ten members of their squad were given equal game time including debuts for Finally O’Neill and Luis Domingos.

Jack Brown dominated the early stages of the match, scoring three of England’s first four tries and making another for Domingos.

Captain Lewis King and veteran Wayne Boardman also touched down, with Boardman adding five goals for a total of 14 points.

England were made to work much harder than the final scoreline suggests, with New South Wales still in the game at 6-16 after 20 minutes.

Halifax flyer Rob Hawkins stole the show after half-time with five of England’s eight second-half tries.

Leeds pivot Nathan Collins plundered 20 points from a try and eight goals, Joe Coyd touched down once and there were two tries for Seb Bechara.

England next play Queensland on Monday in Sunshine Coast, before their two-match series with Australia begins on Thursday.
