Oldham secure new ownership involving former players

OLDHAM are set for new ownership after an agreement was reached for a consortium headed by former players Martin Hall and Terry Flanagan to take over.

The Championship club have endured an uncertain spell since the departures of former coach and managing director Mike Ford in February then chairman Bill Quinn in April.

Hall, 57, had a successful playing career with Wigan and Wales which started at Oldham while Flanagan, 65, was a stalwart of his hometown club in the 1980s, making 281 appearances.

Former Great Britain international Flanagan will become chairman.

Simon Winnard has ended his second spell as director after working with fellow board member Jim Minton and chief executive David Bottomley to stabilise their financial situation following Quinn’s exit due to ill health.

Winnard was part of the Ford-fronted group who acquired the then-League One club in March 2023 with plans of progression to Super League.

A club statement said: “We would like to thank Mike in particular for the tireless work he has done over the last few years in rejuvenating the club both on and off the field.

“Both Jim and Mike leave the club in a very strong position on the field and as new owners we plan to build on that over the remaining games left this season.

“We would also like to place on record our thanks to former chairman Bill Quinn for his contribution in finance and general support and wish him well with his current health challenges.”

Oldham have confirmed that all their remaining home fixtures after this weekend will be played at Boundary Park.

That promise comes with their game against Batley on Sunday relocated to Dewsbury’s FLAIR Stadium.

They had played their previous three home games at Boundary Park after solving a dispute with landlords Oldham Athletic Football Club which led to them playing at Bower Fold in Stalybridge.

Both Boundary Park and Bower Fold, the home of another football club, Stalybridge Celtic, are currently unavailable due to pitch maintenance.
