  1. This month's Rugby League World fans feedback is all about the Salary Cap. Following on from the feature by Dave Hadfield and Steve Mascord in the current issue (no. 354), it's over to you. Should it stay or should it go? Increase it, decrease it, forget it? Has it served its purpose, achieved its aims, been a force for good or is ti too restrictive and holding the game back? Let us have your views on this and anything else cap related by posting it on here or emailing feedback@rugbyleagueworld.net (remembering to provide your name and town in which you are based if replying by email). We'll publish a selection of the best comments in the next issue, on sale 1st Oct.
  2. I'm not sure where to look for the original files to be honest, League Express HQ has moved around a bit since 1990. However, here's an entertaining blog on the subject from a certain Mr Tony Hannan which also includes a piccy of the first cover.
  3. Things seem to be getting a bit nasty on here lately. Too many threads ending up with personally abusive comments passing for argument. Please, calm down everybody and re-read the Terms & Conditions. If it continues, suspensions and/or bans will start getting dished out. Thanks
  4. League Express is 20 today. Time to dig out the party poppers!
  5. It's closed now anyway. You didn't miss anything.
  6. I'd normally shift this into the cross-code section, but that's closed at the moment due to the absence of the only moderator with the patience to keep things on the right side of civil in there, so to prevent hostilities spilling over into this section in the meantime, I'm locking the thread. Sorry. In terms of a definitive answer to the original question, try contacting Tony Collins via his blog at http://www.rugbyreloaded.com - if he doesn't know, no one does.
  7. Press release: The RFL open Red Hall to the public on Saturday The RFL will open the doors of their historic Leeds headquarters at Red Hall on Saturday September 11 between 10am and 1.00pm as part of a nationwide English Heritage event designed to showcase buildings which are not normally open to members of the public. Red Hall is a Georgian property built in 1650 which now hosts the national governing body of Rugby League in the UK; visitors will be able to visit the reception area, view the Rugby League Hall of Fame and Roll of Honour and have access to the grounds. A booklet on the history of Red Hall will also be handed out to visitors. The heritage open days event takes place between September 9 and 12 each year throughout Europe. In Britain it is co-ordinated by the Civic Trust in London and locally, by Leeds Civic Trust. Typically in Leeds, there are over 70 events for the public to see or do over the four days, for further information please check www.heritageopendays.org.uk. The RFL is registered on the Event Directory under
  8. It's all part of the overall experience. While no one would specifically book a ticket to a Grand Final to see a pre-match performer, it adds to the fun of the day. Why have cheerleaders, fireworks and the rest? Exactly the same reason. It turns a match into an event.
  9. Might be worth waiting to see what they're like on the night. I recall a lot of people slagging off the choice of Scouting For Girls last year, then coming back afterwards and confessing to having enjoyed it. And who goes to the Grand Final for the pre-match ents anyway?
  10. RFL Press Release: Radford to face RFL Disciplinary Committee Hull FC second row Lee Radford will appear before the RFL Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday following an incident in Round 27 of the Engage Super League. Radford has been charged with a Grade A offence for punching Ryan Bailey in the 10th minute of Saturday
  11. Yes, it was because I didn't have the time or patience to fillet out all the insults people were hurling at each other by the end of it, or put myself in a position of being seen to endorse any of the comments that would have remained. I'm locking this one before it has the opportunity to go the same way. That's not a reflection on Cliff's opening post as he made by far the most sensible, incisive and intelligent contribution in the previously deleted thread too.
  12. Stan fans can read a cracking Guest Room Q & A with the man himself in this month's Rugby League World. You all asked the questions, so give yourselves a pat on the back! Rugby League World
  13. ... my club's better than your club, blah blah blah, yawn yawn yawn. If you see any bother at a Rugby League match, report it to the stewards and/or the police. Let them deal with it. Threads like this achieve nowt. Locked.
  14. Rugby League World: Issue 354 The latest issue of Rugby League World magazine includes full coverage of the Carnegie Challenge Cup final and Champion Schools tournament at Wembley. 15. A few things wrong with this idea IMO. It wouldn't ever be a true National Rugby League Stadium. It'd always just be Elland Road, home of Leeds Utd Football Club, where the RFL occasionally plays matches. Which is what it is now. What benefit would the RFL possibly derive from such an investment? It'd be cheaper just to hire the place out when they need it. Which in my view, should be never anyway. The idea of confining major RL internationals to Leeds depresses me enormously. It's a recipe for ensuring RL disappears completely off the national radar. We used to play internationals at Wembley and make a song and dance about them. The sooner we get back to that, the better. The WCC has done ok crowdwise at Elland Road, but that's when Leeds have been playing. One day, it might be another team, from another city. It would be perverse for the game to have a 'National Stadium' of its own but continue to play the two biggest games of the season elsewhere. Similarly, it would be a travesty to play the Challenge Cup final anywhere else but Wembley or the SL Grand Final at Old Trafford. Therefore, is there any need for a National Stadium in the first place? Lets use the biggest and most iconic venues in the whole of the UK for our biggest, most important games. If that means never playing another RL match at Elland Road ever again, I for one wouldn't be unhappy about that.
  16. BBC to show Carnegie Challenge Cup final in high definition The Carnegie Challenge Cup final, Rugby League's oldest and most prestigious knockout competition, will be broadcast live for the first time in high definition on the BBC HD channel (Saturday August 28, kick off 2:30pm, BBC HD & BBC One). Carnegie Challenge Cup holders Warrington Wolves will take on Engage Super League champions Leeds Rhinos in the Wembley showpiece final with the match being simulcast live on BBC One, BBC HD and streamed live on the BBC Sport website. Clare Balding will present BBC's TV coverage alongside studio guests Brian Noble and Justin Morgan, with in-game commentary coming from Dave Woods and Jonathan Davies. The pitchside reporting team will include Tanya Arnold, Damien Johnson and Robbie Paul. "The Challenge Cup final between Leeds and Warrington will be an epic contest featuring two giants of the game and with the final being shown live in HD for the first time on the BBC, viewers around the country will be able to see Rugby League in its finest glory," said BBC Sport Editor, Carl Hicks. "The Challenge Cup final is one of the crown jewels in the BBC Sport schedule and we will be covering the match comprehensively across all of our platforms with over a million fans tuning in to one of sports must see events in the calendar." Pre-match coverage of the Cup final will start at 1:30pm via the Red Button with the full programme coming live from Wembley at 2:10pm on BBC One and BBC HD. Post-match will see the popular Rugby League forum being aired for 30 minutes via the red button. BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra will also carry extensive coverage from the final, including live commentary from Wembley and a full Challenge Cup final preview broadcast live on 5 live on Friday August 27 from 7pm.
  17. I've checked with the person who posted this thread and to clarify, they are selling all four
  18. Just a quick note to anyone with spare tickets for Wembley. If you want to post the details on here you MUST be prepared to sell them at face value or less. Any threads attempting to flog tickets to TRL members at vastly inflated prices will be removed. This is not a scalpers paradise. Thank you.
  19. 2012 is the year the Olympics come to London, but ANTHONY REYNOLDS argues it is also the perfect opportunity to revive another great sporting event: Rugby League
  20. It wasn't called anything. TRL didn't launch till March 2001. Blimey, I'll have been modding this site for ten years next March. Do I qualify for a Testimonial?
  21. I'm not a fan of seafood generally. I have eaten squid (fresh, but definitely dead) but to me, it was like a mouthful of salty elastic bands.
  22. There's no point fretting about how much coverage RU gets, because there's nothing any of us can do about that. However, a successful national RL team would get more national press coverage than an unsuccessful one, and more coverage than a successful club RL side ever will. Moaning in advance that however much coverage that might be will not be as much as other sports get by default is a waste of energy, IMO. It'll still be more than RL gets now, which is the important thing. They're not doing nothing, but they're not doing enough. The whole game is club-centric and we pay a price for that.
