GB to replace England?
Wellsy4HullFC replied to Gerrumonside ref's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
I think it's more that they've given up investing in the home nations as possible opponents for England, so to at least get a few of them interested in watching internationals (with a caveat of a token pathway for their players) they just want to tag them on to the England team. If they're not going to invest in international rugby league beyond hoping to play Southern nations, then they might as well. I'd rather they play under the GB brand in that case. I would much rather they actually put interest into the home nations by at least organising relevant fixtures though. -

Will having a number of players from the same club affect team cohesion? Could their be cliques? Hopefully not. -
Do IMG announce who has a SL place before or after the GF? Considering where Toulouse ranked previously, I'm not sure how they could deny them promotion.
-
It's just unfortunate that a team with very little chance currently of achieving the criteria needed to start in SL happened to be the final team to win promotion before the change over. It's the transition year between 2 systems that's screwed them over. In hindsight, it might have been better to have promoted a team based on criteria and relegated the bottom team during the transition year. Would have avoided a team with no hope being in the league. But I guess no one really thought a team outside it Fev or Toulouse would win!

In fairness, that's a completely different situation.

It's practically the same except a hexagon instead of a shield. Maybe it's their equivalent way of saying Super League?

Huddersfield didn't win in 1998. They were promoted and year as Hull won the league IIRC. Either way, since then Huddersfield had been relegated and promoted. Hull never finished in a relegation position. So no idea what he's on about -

2007 definitely the smartest kit. 2001-4 was a classic cotton shirt. Love it and still have it. I lost my 2007 one -

Would have been better if GB weren't playing at the same time as supposed test matches featuring Welsh and Scottish players eligible for both them and GB. But other than that, international competition was at a high. I think the only thing is was better was around 2013. -

I'd only support this if it means going as GB in the WC too. If it meant separating for the WC, what's the point? You're just mixing the brand. Could have Yorkshire v Lancashire and England Knights v Celtic Nations as selection games. Never happen I know, but throwing it out there -
GB to replace England?

I've suggested that before. Similar but different and still keeps the home nations separate. Going back to GB will achieve little yet reduce even further (somehow!) any credible international opportunities. -

The best solution would be for England to use an adapted version of the GB brand. We play in a navy and white shirt these days, might as well chuck a bit of red back on and make it a similar V. Make the lion logo a white one. England White Lions. Sorted. Have the nostalgic things being sought over (the badge and kit mainly), but still keep the nations separate.
