  1. If I remember right, Tony Collins points out in one of his publications on Rugby, that one of the reasons for the split was broken time payment. The Welsh were already paying their players, but the English RFU turned a blind eye. So there was no need for the welsh to split. He also points out that the split decimated the English squad. Lancashire and Yorkshire forming the backbone of the team. Therefore Wales was able to beat the English for over a decade. Thus building up Wales as a force in union.
  2. Just read a piece on the RFL site about hornets releasing a dozen or so players and how they're having to cut their cloth accordingly. It seems their relationship with the football club is having a negative impact. Income from ground related streams, such as car parking, has been severed. Just shows what a nightmare it can be negotiating with a potential landlord. Although the deal we had with stalybridge would give us an insight into what is needed. I'm sure latics would be looking at something beneficial and concrete and sustainable.
  3. Well, good job it's not up to your mate who works there! The pod cast is from July. As we all know , a week is a long time in politics, never mind rugby league. So let's just see what happens. TBH, latics could do with extra income, and a relayed pitch. So let's just see what the intermediaries come up with.
  4. From what little info we've had, we know Frank mentioned getting "the rugby" back. I also believe that the council were looking at being involved, dunno where I heard it but it involves a new pitch. So I guess there are many balls to juggle before any announcements are made.
  5. What??? The broadcasting union would have a fit. They'd be out faster than a Wigan fan with ten minutes to go!!!!! They wouldn't let it happen, more than their jobs worth.
  6. I asked that same question on the main forum.
  7. There is P&R though. Just no relegation for cat A teams. The logic, I guess, is if you are in tier 2 and you have cat A facilities then you Trump a top tier team with cat B facilities. Encourages investment in the none playing side. This was the problem initially. Teams spending fortunes on playing staff rather than grounds.
  8. Well at least we knew it was a re-signing, even if it was 7:38 pm by the time it came through. However, like most people we were hoping for confirmation of wilkinson. Still , Cameron good re-signing though. Loads of potential.
  9. You know, I initially put that, but you can see I edited it and changed it.
  10. Saw him when he played for Oldham. I was only a kid at the time and didn't realise how much of a legend he was till many years later.
  11. Although I'm pleased at Kian Morgan re-signing I'm disappointed in the grammar used in getting us to wait with baited breath for 7pm. "Transfer" news. This wasn't a "transfer" so please get it right. Details are important!
  12. Well, good news if true. Didn't McNally play for us while ago?
  13. Must say I'd have put a tenner on Eye of the tiger, theme from Rocky or simply the best being in there!?
  14. Right, which one of you heard it from the horse's mouth and which one from a bloke down the pub who's brother's aunty is the cleaner at hornets. Or who's heard it from the player's agent who's trying to get him a better gig????
  15. Playing at BP is a 100% must, if we're to get anywhere. I'm sure the increase in support due to playing at BP would cover any increased costs. Let's hope the various parties involved can see the benefits for all concerned and come up with a long term deal.
  16. Any chance of it being recorded and being made available on-line?
  17. What I should've said is we have a far greater potential than the likes of Dewsbury. Hence the population reference.
  18. Sorry, disagree. We are Oldham. We are much bigger . We need to believe we're bigger. 200k population. Dewsbury, Max 55k. We gave him his chance. But hey these things happen!
  19. Disappointed about restall. But it happens. He's going closer to home. Plenty more full backs in the sea. As for bouncing back up!!!? That's what they said about us 12 months ago.
  20. Nearly right, but not quite. Saddleworth, including Delph, were not pinched by the county palatine that is Lancashire, but by that made up metropolitan county of Greater Manchester. Saddleworth, including Delph, are still in Prince Andrews county.
  21. Especially Owdham edge, with the line "now your touching t'yorkshire line you can't see nowt past there but grime"
  22. And, we need to make sure we get through more than one challenge cup game next season.
  23. Emerson whittle signed two year extension. Miss the first 4 games though. thats nearly quarter of the season. Do friendlies count towards the ban?
