  1. It's nothing to do with any of that, its who owns the rights in a given territory. The BBC own them for the UK. Someone else owns them everywhere else.
  2. Wales isn't in England but at the 2015 RUWC it was! I certainly see the logic.
  3. Bet you'd have been chuffed if you had paid £70 and seen folk doing that. Not blaming you at all mate, I would have done the same (indeed my dad and I did in 2013 at Cardiff for the Wales game after England), but I'm seeing a few people who have paid £70 etc for tickets and left doubting if it was worth it. That is damaging imo, as ultimately these are the high value customers that are central to the drive in revenues the organisers are promoting.
  4. They're letting a fair few physical moments go in this one. Just simmering nicely.
  5. I thought I read that NSW (alone) were wanting to host this one? Part of the intra Australian state rivalry
  6. Tbf, Leigh's 3 games are very much dependent on people from Leigh and a few immediate surrounding areas going to them - there are so many other, arguably more enticing, games nearby too.
  7. This game was supposed to be a 2.30pm school holiday fixture. Moved when the schedules did but not sure why things weren't shuffled round.
  8. Its a fact, Doncaster isn't a destination most people in the hypothetical target market are either familiar with travelling to or seen as a destination to go to (eateries etc.). Leeds is, thousands travel in every day for work from all over Yorkshire. Its an easier sell on a weekday night too particularly on the corporate market. You're saying its a rubbish excuse. Its evidently a factor that isn't helping.
  9. My point was rather that in Union, it doesn't have to just be England, Australia or New Zealand. Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and South Africa can tour, Host and play against developing nations. Argentina are arguably now in that list. In RL, any tournament/series not involving England, Australia or New Zealand is so much harder to make money out of. The European Championships are a start. Hopefully they grow into a tournament that can come close to replacing/building on the 4 nations.
  10. Sorry, should have added "by train". People don't generally speaking travel to Doncaster (except for the races), so it has to be something special for them to do so. Can't blame customers.
  11. But because it already has more nations at a level relatively similar to England, it doesn't have to be "just England". When in RL we talk about the likes of England playing X, we're talking about 3 countries, in RU they have 8, and have built a fair few more to challenge too.
  12. On this specific game no. But they are in the discussion around the whole tournament, and may very well have impacted people considering travelling from WF postcodes that are half an hour away.
  13. Even if there were over a 1000 less people than the reported attendance, that is still 3x your average Doncaster RL attendance...
  14. So "academy produced" players in England, Australia and NZ are fine to count as "domestic players" then. As I've said it is a can of worms. The rules are there now to state who can play for whom. Right now our focus should be strengthening the teams between World Cups by making sure the players who play in world cups also feature in the intervening years.
  15. Yeah I know! I was working on 2 a year and 1 in 2025 prior to the WC... Ideally it would be upwards of that a year, but England don't even manage that.
  16. Yeah I get that, I think its just nicer when it does "work"!
  17. There's also a potential balance then to have midweek games in larger population centres to compensate somewhat.
